Crom Cruach

Magh Slécht (Killycluggin), County Cavan, Ireland

Crom Cruach was a feared idol of pre-Christian Irish tradition, said to stand at Magh Slécht, the Plain of Prostrations, encircled by twelve lesser stones. Medieval sources tell how St Patrick destroyed the idol. The broken and decorated Killycluggin Stone was found near a stone circle in County Cavan and is often associated with the tradition.
