Ivar the Boneless
Derbyshire
Son of Ragnar Lothbrok and commander of the Great Heathen Army that swept into England in 865, Ivar took York and exacted vengeance on King Aella with the blood eagle. A great Viking burial excavated at Repton in Derbyshire — where the army wintered in 873 — is believed by some scholars to be his grave, surrounded by the bones of over two hundred warriors.
