The last person imprisoned under Britain's Witchcraft Act of 1735. A medium who claimed to materialise spirits of the dead, she was arrested in 1944 after apparently revealing that HMS Barham had sunk — a fact the Admiralty had not yet made public. Convicted and imprisoned, she died in 1956 shortly after a police raid on one of her séances.
