Stone of Scone
Perthshire, Scotland
A plain block of red sandstone that served as the coronation seat of Scottish kings at Scone Abbey for centuries. Edward I stole it for Westminster in 1296 as a trophy of conquest. Scottish tradition insists the real stone was hidden and the English got a copy — and the question has never quite been settled.
