Iron Age

From around 800 BC to the Roman conquest, when Britain and Ireland were home to Celtic-speaking tribal societies, hillforts and a rich, largely oral mythological tradition. Very little of that oral material survives directly — most is known through later Roman commentary or medieval Irish and Welsh manuscripts — but hillforts, ritual sites and votive deposits still anchor local legend today.
