Medieval Britain

The broad high and late medieval period, roughly the 12th through 15th centuries — an age of castles, cathedrals, chivalric romance and the flowering of much of the folklore that later ages would treat as timeless. Many familiar legendary figures and ballads (Robin Hood among them) are first recorded in this period, even where the events they describe are set earlier.
